Oyster shells as a stabilizer
Purified oyster shells as a mineral reserve to stabilize pH and carbonate hardness. Contents: 10 liters
Oyster shells have a pronounced stabilizing effect on the carbonate hardness (KH) of water and thus also on the acidity (pH). Japanese koi breeders use the shells for mineralizing the water in their breeding facilities. Koi are sensitive to excessively low carbonate hardness. Aquatic plants also suffer. This can lead to pH fluctuations throughout the day or sudden drops (pH crashes). It is often assumed that slightly harder tap water would not cause problems with KH and pH. The KH value is considered to a certain extent to buffer the pH of the water. Fish, plants, and biological filters reduce the carbonate hardness of the water. During periods of heavy rainfall, the KH value also drops rapidly. Unstable water parameters with mineral deficiencies frequently lead to algae problems.
Oyster shells ensure complete, long-term stabilization of the carbonate hardness (KH) and pH levels. The shells only dissolve slowly when the KH decreases, thus buffering the pH. Completely independent of rainfall, water changes, or the season, the oyster shells maintain stable KH and pH levels in your pond.
The oyster shells are delivered in a 10-liter bucket with a net. They have been cleaned and disinfected so that no pathogens can enter the pond.
The trays can also be distributed in the gravel plant filter without a net.
